Top Spots To Watch Fireworks In Washington, DC


Watching the fireworks and celebrating Independence Day in Washington, DC is definitely a bucket list to-do. There are plenty of interesting sites from which to view them. Know that the July 4th show at the nation’s capital begins at 9:07 PM and is expected to run until 9:27 PM. Check out some of the best spots to view the show!

The National Mall

This is the best and busiest place for the ultimate viewing! Perch your people anywhere from the Washington Monument to the plaza in front of the Jefferson Memorial and in between. There will also be other events taking place prior to the fireworks. Give yourself plenty of time to find a spot and make note of security restrictions.

The U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial Across the Potomac River

This is an ideal viewing area with this dramatic monument as the backdrop. The fireworks take on greater meaning.

Take a Family-Friendly Fireworks Cruise

Rooftop Bars In the District

There are several really cool ones that offer panoramic views. Check out POV Rooftop Lounge and Terrace at the W Hotel and the Sky Bar at the Beacon Hotel for viewing events.

Restaurants in the Area

Check out Sequoia, Nick’s Riverside Grill and Joe’s Seafood Place which are extra-comfortable eateries if you are around the Georgetown area. There is Café’ du Parc downtown also, and all are very family friendly.

The Mount Vernon Trail

Rent some bikes from Bike and Roll or Capital Bikeshare and venture up the Virginia side of the Potomac River near the Pentagon to the trail. The views from here are AMAZING!

The U.S. Supreme Court

This majestic building on Capitol Hill has a wide plaza that is spacious and open from unobstructed views. Get there early to claim a seat.

The Washington National Cathedral

Find a spot on this grassy slope of the beautiful cathedral in Upper Northwest. It is one of the highest points in the DC area and a spectacular place to picnic while waiting on the show.
