Celebrate Christmas At Mount Vernon
George Washington’s family loved celebrating Christmas with family members and friends. Now, you can take part in the same tradition by spending Christmas at Mount Vernon. You can celebrate Christmas at Mount Vernon through Dec. 31. The regular hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., but some special events take place later in the evening. Tickets are $18 for adults and $11 for kids. Children five and under can attend Christmas at Mount Vernon for free. Along with the ticket price, some special events cost more.

Mount Vernon by Candlelight
Mount Vernon by Candlelight is the most popular of the special events. You can attend on Dec. 1, 7, 8, and 16 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $17 for the youth. Kids five and under get in for free.
You’ll be whisked into the mansion, where you’ll be greeted by costumed characters. These characters are full of stories of Christmases of the past. The characters don’t just want to tell stories. They also want to celebrate. You’ll get to dance, enjoy snacks, and listen to Christmas carols, just like an old-fashioned Christmas.
Holiday Time for the Washingtons Tour
The Holiday Time for the Washingtons Tour takes place at noon on Saturdays and Sundays through Dec. 30. The tour is an extra $7 a person, and you’ll get to see quite a bit for that small fee. You’ll tour the grounds and the mansion, and you’ll learn everything about holiday food in the old days. You’ll also get some information about how the Washingtons slaves and hired help celebrated during the holiday season.
Think your grandma makes a good pie? Wait until you try pie à la Washington. Pie making is available every day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. You’ll get to help make the crust of the delicious pie while you learn all about pie making of the past.

Ornament Making for Children
Don’t you love hanging your kids’ ornaments on the tree? You can get a new batch by taking them to Ornament Making for Children on Dec. 3–24 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. This special event is included with general admission and geared toward kids aged 5–10. They’ll get to make some old-style holiday ornaments that will look great on your tree.
