2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia vs 2023 Genesis G70

The mid-sized luxury sedan market is receiving some great entries for 2023, most notably the 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia and the similarly classed 2023 Genesis G70. Both mid-sized sedans were created with luxury and performance in mind, and are both priced competitively. In today’s post, we will go over both vehicles to see which comes out on top, so that you can find your perfect luxury sedan

Under the Hood

Long known for their dedication to performance and style, Alfa Romeo has given the 2023 Giulia a 2.0-liter turbocharged V6, delivering 280 horsepower and 306 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy comes out to 24/33 mpg in RWD and 22/31 mpg in AWD. The top-of-the-line 2023 Giulia Quadrifoglio comes only as a RWD and is equipped with a monstrous 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6, capable of a blistering 505 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. The Giulia Quadrifoglio takes a hit in fuel economy due to its outstanding power and receives 17/25 mpg.
The 2023 Genesis G70 also offers two engine options, albeit a bit tamer than the Alfa Romeos. The 2023 Genesis G70 receives a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4, making 252 horses and 260 lb-ft of torque. The top trims receive a twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6, cranking out 365 horsepower and 373 lb-ft of torque. The base engine’s fuel economy comes out to 21/31 mpg (RWD) 20/28 mpg (AWD) and 18/27 mpg (RWD) 17/26 mpg (AWD) for the twin-turbo variant. RWD is standard with AWD available as an option.

Drivability and Interior Comfort

Both vehicles offer an exhilarating, sporty ride. The 2023 Alfa Romeo comes with three driving modes, Dynamic, Natural, and Advanced, that automatically adjust the Guilia’s handling characteristics depending on the environment. On the road, the RWD 2023 Guilia goes from 0-60 in 5.7 seconds while the AWD achieved a time of 5.5 seconds. The G70 on the other hand achieved a 5.8 second 0-60 time for the base engine, and a 4.7 second time for the twin-turbo.It seems that Alfa Romeo has focused on performance and performance-related comforts on the 2023 Guilia while Genesis has focused more on everyday driving comforts and luxury. In other words, the 2023 Guilia is performance first and daily driving second, while the 2023 G70 is daily driving first, performance second. Regarding the interior, both vehicles feature premium materials and nice finishes as expected from vehicles in this class. The 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia offers a total of 13.4 cubic feet of cargo space, with 95.4 cubic feet of total internal volume. The 2023 G70 on the other hand, offers 10.5 cubic feet of cargo space and 106.4 cubic feet of total interior volume.

Safety and Driver Assist

Both vehicles offer a comprehensive suite of safety and Driver Assist features. The 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia offers:

  • LaneSense Lane Keep Assist
  • Active Blind Spot Assist
  • Intelligent Speed Control
  • Highway & Traffic Jam Assist
  • Driver Attention Alert
  • Forward Collision Warning w/ Full Stop
  • Adaptive Cruise Control w/ Full Stop
  • Blind Spot Monitoring w/ Rear Cross Path Detection
  • Front and Rear Park Assist
  • and much more!

The 2023 G70 also offers Safety and Driver features such as Auto Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Driver Attention Detection and more, but lacks the comprehensiveness of the 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia.

At the end of the day, the 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia offers more performance and practicality than the 2023 Genesis G70. Even with more power from the engine, the 2023 Giulia offers significantly more efficient fuel economy than the 2023 Genesis G70. Although the 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia starts at $43,950 compared to the G70’s $39,400, the 2023 Giulia is clearly the better buy.
