Alfa Romeo Tonale and Dodge Hornet: What Are The Differences?

If you didn’t know, the Alfa Romeo Tonale and Dodge Hornet share the same DNA, as they both feature the same powertrain, and body components. But that doesn’t mean both vehicles are the same. In fact, both vehicles are geared towards two very different types of drivers. The Tonale is for the driver who prefers elegant Italian design, performance, and luxury while the Dodge Hornet is for the younger driver who enjoys Dodge’s muscle-inspired looks.

Performance

The Tonale and its American brother share the same powertrain while taking advantage of a plug-in hybrid system paired with a robust turbo-four. Horsepower and torque numbers, however,  are not the same. The Hornet also comes with an optional gas-only variant, while the Tonale only offers the PHEV powertrain.

Interior & Cargo Space

Alfa Romeo Tonale Interior

The interior of the Tonale is noticeably more upscale than the Hornet. Featuring swaths of leather, cloth upholstery with Biscotto Stitching and Alcantara, the cabin of the Tonale exudes craftsmanship. It’s glaringly obvious that Alfa designers took their time making sure every bit of the Tonale screams “Alfa Romeo”. The interior of the Hornet is nice but is admittedly more rugged and utilitarian in styling. Regarding cargo space, the Tonale offers 50.5 cubic feet of maximum cargo space while the Hornet offers 54.7 cubic feet of cargo space.

Regarding the dashboard, the Hornet features Dodge graphics in the digital gauge cluster while the Alfa Romeo keeps it sophisticated with Alfa motifs.

Technology & Safety

Both vehicles boast extensive safety and driver-assist features designed to keep you and your passengers out of harm’s way. Boasting a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, the Tonale offers:

  • Forward Collision Warning with Full-Stop
  • Driver Attention Alert
  • LaneSense Lane Keep Assist
  • Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control
  • 360° Camera
  • and much more.

The Hornet offers many of the same technologies, but fancier standard tech on the Tonale is only available for the Hornet at an additional cost.

Concluding Thoughts

Although similar, it’s evident that the Alfa Romeo Tonale is a more sophisticated PHEV crossover, with elegant styling and design cues. Quick, luxurious, and efficient, learn more about the Alfa Romeo Tonale by visiting Alfa Romeo of Tysons, VA!
