G Is For The Giulietta

Alfa Romeo’s lineup is filled with marvelous mainstays like the Giulia, Stelvio, and Spider, but there have been other names that appear on occasion to add their own character to the rich history of the celebrated Italian manufacturer. Let’s take a look back at the evolution of the Giulietta.
What’s in A Name
The modern Giulietta is the latest in a family of vehicles that reach back through Alfa Romeo’s history. The first car to carry the Giulietta nameplate was the 1954 rear-wheel drive Type 750 and 101, which came as a coupe, roadster, wagon, and four-door sedan. This model was eventually proceeded by the Giulia. The Giulietta returned in 1977, again riding on rear-wheel drive and sharing features with the Alfetta sedan. This model ran until 1985. In 2010, the Giulietta name was issued to a family-friendly hatchback that sported front-wheel drive. It also featured contemporary curves as well as the iconic Alfa Romeo triangular grille. With the latest Giulietta, front-wheel drive as standard-issue at the debut, but plans were announced in 2018 to bring back rear-wheel drive once again.
The Most Recent Return
Anyone who’s taken the contemporary Giulietta out for a drive on the roadways of Italy might note that it demonstrates handling and driving dynamics similar to the familiar Giulia. That’s because the Giulietta is built on the same platform as its alfa Romeo sibling, with rear-wheel drive and firm, sporty suspension. Fans of Alfa Romeo’s lauded engineering often embrace hands-on gear shifting, and the Giulietta could be equipped with either a manual or dual-clutch automatic transmission.
